CDR(sel) Mark Leahey is currently serving as Chief of Response at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach where he leads all Coast Guard response missions in Central and Southern California. In addition to his core duties, he is also serving as the Deputy Incident Commander and Operations Section Chief for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles where he is responsible for all maritime safety and security for the projected largest international engagement ever hosted by the United States—and the largest sporting event in the history of the world.  He grew up in Morris Plains, NJ and received a Bachelor of Science in Management with high honors from the Coast Guard Academy, a Master of Business Administration with second year honors from Harvard Business School, and a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies from the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. CDR(sel) Leahey has had assignments in Connecticut, California, Washington, Massachusetts, and Florida. He served in Deepwater Horizon, Operation Allies Welcome, Operation Vigilant Sentry, the 2024 Haitian Crisis, and the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse. In his spare time, he loves cycling, hiking, and snowboarding with his wife Katie.
