Ms. Villanueva is also the Port’s representative to federal, state and local governments. In this capacity, she oversees the activities of the Port’s legislative advocates in Sacramento and Washington.
She began her career at the Port in 2011 as a Government Relations Analyst, focused on city and regional issues, and, in 2016, was promoted to Government Relations Officer, focusing on state and federal legislation and advocacy.
Prior to joining the Port, Ms. Villanueva served as a Field Representative for then-State Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal, covering San Pedro and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Earlier, she was a Field Deputy for the City of Long Beach’s 1st Council District, serving the constituents and businesses in downtown, West Long Beach and the Harbor District.
Ms. Villanueva holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
Serving the community, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Conservation Corps of Long Beach.
Legislative Representative, POLA
Erick Martell is the Legislative Representative for the Port of Los Angeles. Before his current position, Erick served as the Legislative & Transportation Director for Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar, 14th District. The District includes Downtown Los Angeles, as well as Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Highland Park, and Eagle Rock. Erick worked on a broad range of issues and was the point person on matters relating to Los Angeles World Airports, Port of Los Angeles, Public Safety, Public Works, Budget & Finance, LAUSD, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Labor relations.
Erick also managed transportation issues for the Councilman, who served on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Agency Board of Directors (Metro). In this capacity, Erick was involved with a variety of significant transportation projects, including the Regional Connector, which will significantly improve the connectivity of the transportation network for the region and serve as an essential economic development tool for Downtown Los Angeles and LA County.
