In January, Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE) announced that it had finalized a contract with General Dynamics NASSCO, to design the
conversion of the company’s two existing Orca Class, diesel-electric trailerships to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion. This design
contract is in addition to the new-construction order that TOTE
Shipholdings placed with NASSCO in December for the construction
of the World’s first LNG-powered containerships. Conversion of these
ships to LNG propulsion will significantly reduce or nearly eliminate the sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide and particulate matter
from ship emissions when compared to traditional diesel fuel.
Improvement in dual fuel engine technology, along with the incredible environmental benefits, make LNG propulsion desirable for many new shipbuilding and conversion projects.
Mr. Christian is the Project Manager of TOTE Shipholdings. He is a
graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point,
NY and the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business in
Seattle, WA. His background includes sailing as a deck officer with
Military Sealift Command and Alaska Tanker Company. Prior to
joining TOTE, he worked for Saltchuk Resources, TOTE’s parent company,
as a Senior Financial Analyst.
Sponsorships are available for $300: Two tickets to the luncheon
(one guest to be seated at speakers table, first-come, first-served)
